Scandal alert: St. Philip's Youth Minister is getting arrested...sort of

Thats right. On October 28th I will be arrested at St. Philip's! For good. But not permanently. I am participating in a fundraiser for MDA and Jerry's Kids. I am raising money to help find a cure for muscular dystrophy in all of its many forms. If you do not know about md, it is a nasty disease that eats away at your muscular system and makes your generally weak and unable to function. Unfortunately many of the people that face the disease are children. The money not only goes to find a cure for the different forms of this disease but also for camps and retreats for those who are suffering. This is one way we can be the Church for a group of people who are probably often forgotten in the shuffle. This is my second blog on Vision 2030: the vision that God is giving us to fulfill our mission at Rockbridge Church! Time to Grow Up

This morning I lost my wallet. Well lost is probably not the correct word, I temporarily misplaced it. Whenever I lose something, especially something important, I get anxious, even frantic. Most people have outgrown the problem of losing their keys or their wallet by having specific places to put it. I struggle with this (I often give the excuse that it's because it is how my brain works, while true it's an excuse) because I have not taken the time and effort to develop a pattern of where to put my important stuff. I am a very forgetful person, my dad used to say I would forget my head if it was not attached, but with the proper effort and training, I could learn to change my ways. Friends, the same is true with our faith. We must choose to put effort and energy into growing in mature followers of Jesus. Why a Mission Celebration?

I am very excited that we are hosting a Mission Celebration on March 18th this year at Rockbridge. Serving in the community has always been a passion of mine! There is a reason that Micah 6:8 is my theme passage! God requires us to act justly, to love mercy and walk humbly with our God. That means to me, at least in part, that we are called to serve our communities and that bringing God's kingdom means the poor, the oppressed, the suffering, and the hurting in our world are priorities for the church to help. So on March 18: We are going to have local, regional, and international mission organizations here at Rockbridge so that you can see where you are called to serve! My goal and vision for missions at the church is for everyone to participate in some way serving outside the walls of the congregation. There should be something for everyone.
